Borrowed directly from the Greek, Topos, which means place or location, can also refer to a grounding or recurring theme or motif in literature or rhetoric, or a mathematical category in which a set of points describe a surface or structure. Each of the artists in this exhibition exhibit one or more of these qualities of topos in their work.

Scottish artist Dana Hargrove concerns herself with ideas that frame our perceptions of the land and our sense of place and space. She employs a range of media from photography, collage, sculpture and installed paintings including large-scale site-specific works.
Hargrove exhibits her work both nationally and internationally. She has recently exhibited her work at Lightner Museum; Rollins Museum; Start Art Fair, Saatchi Gallery, London; Orlando Museum of Art; Deiglan, Akureyri, Iceland; Alt_space Gallery, Atlantic Center for the Arts; Bridgette Mayer Gallery; and Greatmore Studios, Cape Town.
Laine Nixon’s non-representational and self-descriptive Color Writing Series involves a repetitive multi-step process in which shapes created by stream of consciousness writing form the basis for her compositions. Though the work is strictly non-objective, it can bear an uncanny resemblance to abstracted landscapes or topographical maps.
Emerging artists Kathleen and David Bly, collectively known as Jib, create substantial-yet-elegant lathe-turned wooden artifacts from urban trees that have been culled due to structural issues or felled in storms. The Florida landscape has long been a source of inspiration and their sculptural work explores connection to time and place through material.
