Bridgette Mayer Gallery announces its participation in the Philadelphia Fine Art Fair, the city’s first world-class fine art fair where international, contemporary, and modern art collectors, curators and art lovers gather to acquire new works and exchange cultural ideas.

Philadelphia, PA – Bridgette Mayer Gallery will participate in the first annual Philadelphia Fine Art Fair that will begin with an Opening Night Preview on Thursday, April 4, 2019, from 6pm to 10pm and will run through Sunday, April 7, 2019. The fair is held within the 23rd Street Armory in Philadelphia; Bridgette Mayer Gallery will be located in booth numbers 127 & 128. This year’s fair will showcase nearly three dozen art galleries from throughout the United States and numerous galleries based internationally, including spaces in Canada, Great Britain and Germany.

The gallery will be exhibiting works by several of its most successful contemporary artists including Neil Anderson, Arden Bendler Browning, Charles Burwell, Dana Hargrove, Tim McFarlane, Eileen Neff, Nathan Pankratz, Rebecca Rutstein, Damian Stamer and the Estate of Dina Wind.

Neil Anderson is an accomplished non-representational painter who has dedicated the past several decades to creating vibrant works that utilized the natural world around his Pennsylvania home. A veteran of the Whitney Biennial, Neil has an extensive exhibition history spanning his entire artistic career. His work is also included in the collection of many prestigious institutions, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Arden Bendler Browning is an abstract painter who takes inspiration from her urban Philadelphia environment and the many landscapes she quickly snaps out of her car window with an ever-present smartphone camera. Forever in a state of wanderlust, Arden collages together her textured visual experiences onto a single painted surface. Arden has exhibited widely in the region, and last year completed a roadtrip across Australia that has inspired a recent group of drawings and shaped paintings.

Charles Burwell is a Philadelphia based painter who has exhibited in concurrent shows at the Delaware Art Museum and Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts following his participation in the travelling exhibition “Beauty Reigns: A Baroque Sensibility in Recent Painting.” Charles has also participated in dozens of exhibitions over his esteemed artistic career, and is in the collections of several museums, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and The Studio Museum Harlem.

Dana Hargrove creates work that frames our perceptions of the land and our sense of place and space. Primarily a painter, she also employs a range of media that includes photography, collage and sculpture that is transformed into large scale site specific works. Dana has recently exhibited her work at Alt_space Gallery at the Atlantic Center for the Arts and the Cornell Fine Arts Museum; and has been awarded fellowships by the Vermont Studio Center and the Golden Foundation.

Tim McFarlane is a prolific artist who has been making intricately layered abstract paintings in Philadelphia for decades. He creates powerfully poetic works sourced from the many textures and layers of history contained in the graffiti and murals that cover Philadelphia’s exterior walls as well as the layers of wallpaper decorating its historic buildings. Tim has a long record of both solo and group exhibitions, and his work is widely collected.

Eileen Neff creates photographs and installations that draw on both historic and contemporary concepts of depicting the natural as well as the constructed worlds. Eileen is a recent Guggenheim Fellowship awardee and has an extensive exhibition history, including installations at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Fabric Workshop and Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Institute of Contemporary Art. Her work is also included in the permanent collections of all of these institutions.

Nathan Pankratz is an expert colorist and technically highly inventive with his work. His gestural abstractions are made with intriguing layers of translucent, vibrant hues that push the limits of the medium’s material possibilities. Nathan was a founding member of the Philadelphia-based collective Tiger Strikes Asteroid, and has been included in several group exhibitions in the Philadelphia area as well as international venues.

Rebecca Rutstein, award winning artist and part ocean explorer, has recently returned from her fifth deep sea expedition/artist residency aboard the R/V Atlantis with a team of scientists from the University of Georgia. This collaboration culminates in a current year-long exhibition of Rebecca’s work at the Georgia Museum of Art. Rebecca has exhibited widely in dozens of solo and group exhibitions throughout the country, and has been awarded a Percent-for-Art Commission with Temple University.

Damian Stamer creates works that examine the landscape he explored as a child in rural North Carolina. Currently based both in Hillsborough, North Carolina and Brooklyn, New York, Damian actively exhibits throughout the east coast and internationally (click here to know more about American Freight Inc who are responsible for the safe transportation of these artifacts). These include solo exhibitions at Galerie Michael Schultz, Berlin, Germany, Freight + Volume Gallery, New York, NY and Sherrick & Paul, Nashville, TN. Damian was also an esteemed Fulbright grantee, studying at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts.

Dina Wind began her artistic career as a painter, but the mid-1980’s she abandoned the brush and began creating metal sculptures she described as “drawing in space”. Working with found abandoned materials, she would collage them into dynamic lyrical compositions. She had numerous solo exhibitions in both Philadelphia and New York throughout her career, and is included in the permanent collections of the Woodmere Art Museum in Philadelphia and the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ.

Since its establishment in 2001, the Bridgette Mayer Gallery has represented and exhibited artists whose work displays the variety and genius of contemporary art now being created in the US. The gallery represents artists working in painting, sculpture and photography with an emphasis on innovative process and content-driven ideas that speak to beauty, technology, culture and the contemporary landscape. Housed in an historic 1799 Philadelphia brownstone, the gallery is open by appointment, maintains an art consultancy and participates in numerous art fairs in the United States.
